Abstract

This research focuses on mathematics studies related to ethnomathematics in the context of calligraphy in Borneo, especially in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) Kota Singkawang. The purpose of this research is to find the concept of ethnomathematics in calligraphy so that it can be used for mathematics learning. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data collected was obtained through interviews and documentation. Before conducting the research, there were some students who did not know that there were mathematical elements in calligraphy artwork. Based on the results of the research, the mathematical concepts found in calligraphy are flat plane, flat area, congruence and congruence, translation, rotation and reflection. From the results of this study, it is expected that students can know the mathematical concepts in calligraphy so that it can be used for math learning.
